The age old question of how often you should change your oil comes up all the time with first time car owners. And while the answer has remained roughly the same, with newer cars and fully synthetic oils available, the answer can tend to vary.
For older cars running regular oil, it is recommended you change your oil once every 3,000 miles. This can be rather costly so most people have been switching to fully synthetic oils. For these oils, it varies.
For instance, if you race your car, you’d probably still want to change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Love your share of spirited driving while mostly going to and from work? Then every 7,500 miles should be your target. But for those of you who use your car just as a means to get from A to B and don’t push your car hard, then you can get away with only changing your oil every 10,000 miles.
